The storm before and after

So we got a storm while I was sleeping (I do love 3rd shift!) which had some annoying "costs" to my garden I also got the pic of some roots too with that experiment

So before cleanup:

The raspberry got knocked over

Some weed blown east

Goji knocked over plants all over (and plastic pots in my window box) plants blown east

Moms salsa garden knocked over- plants blown east

And after the cleanup:

You can still see plants blown east

Still look kinda blown east also the cherry tomato you see ripening needs work as the stalk snapped (I'm just gonna wrap it with support and my aaa med tape I think)

Then on to the rest of the garden?

My winter sewing experiment

The herb pot (proubly needs a drain)

And

I'm surprised how well the tomatoes and peppers survived! They look PERFECT!

And here are the roots from that sand experiment

All I did was put beach sand in a container (no drainage) added water and cuttings then light fert after a bit this is as of today like 2-3 weeks later (a guess) you can get the exact timing looking for my post about it --i WILL be using this method again! And into the future! I may even experiment with starting seeds in warmed sand this winter (ill likely use the exact same sand because I don't know if ill get to the beach in/by winter)

Rooting experiment update!

So no pics yet of that experiment (apart from planting) but I'm glad to say it worked PERFECTLY! So I may try that with more things to the extent I may even get sand and try that with seeds I'm trying to start as well!

For those that don't know/recall about a month back I got this insane ideal that I wanted to use sand (specifically sand straight from the local beach and FYI should be fresh water as its Lake Michigan) that I hadn't treated in any special way what's more is that sand was put into a few dollar store containers that did not allow for drainage (the largest a big (ish) black bucket also a small grey planter and a green holder thing loosely like the tip jar where I work) then I added water till I could see the water drained off excess (like when it rained) and planted catnip and oregano in the big one left the green a little more on the dry side and put rosemary in it then put stevia in the grey one

Well the rosemary doesn't look like *any* of my plants have grown but I pulled one up and great roots forming! Same deal with the stevia as well! So I added some lemon verbena to them as we'll as the stuff I put back into the pot after getting clippings of it (I like to grow babies near mommy I think they do better together)

Maby ill get some pics later? I know I need to sleep tonight(day) so I can get some outher things in and get that Thai basil to uncles as well as start him a couple patchouli starts lol and grab the Thai pepper plant for here and let har out

The newly planted

I'm just trying to be quick ATM (need to get some sleep) here's that planter *planted* what's clear to me is the new lemon verabena *needs* to be trimmed! But I don't wanna kill it lol tho I think the planter is now starting to fill in nicely lol and behind it you can even see the mint pot

So once I think the lemon verabena is settled in ill get cuttings of it what ill do with them as of yet I'm not entirely certain but ill figure something once there rooted (I see 6+ cuttings easily)

4 more plants in the garden and on the hunt for another

Ok so I stopped by millaegers because I couldn't resist (I was looking everbearing strawberries and still am looking for some!) and I found all herbs and veg half off! So sence some of my stuff from steins wasnt looking so good and I promised uncle some Thai basil I ended up getting a lemon verabena (that is in need of a trim!) some holy basil some Thai basil and a basil pack with a pretty green/purple basil plant in it! So I'm gonna wait a couple days for those plants to settle in then I'm gonna give the lemon verabena a good trim to about what/how I want it to be I also tryied to move my weakling rosemary so it would get more sun too

Hopefully I can get some pics of them soon? Also as I said before I'm looking for an everbearing and a white strawberry I have 2 junebearing but I'd like to extend the season some (and I have to put drainage into that pot as well as my herb that I got for my birthday and my mint pot!)

Pretty soon I'll be able to get cuttings from most of my herbs if anyone wants to buy or trade for them (some may and some may not be rooted if intrested but need rooted let me know ASAP and I can take a few cuttings and start rooting them now weather or not you decide)

I also plan on saving dried herbs as much as possible maby freeze drying them or something of the sort? (Simple but time consuming) tho I do hope to make some sun dried tomatoes too this year and ill need the dehydrator for that lol depending on my harvests I may be willing to share/such some of my herbs (remember no pesticides or herbicides closest is sevin and that's not been near the garden yet but I do use different ferts!)

Any questions can comment here or email at sakura0garden@gmail.com ill be glad to answer any questions!

Swapped 2 plants

So one plus to steins (which is the place I hate) is they have a 30 day warranty on there stuff meaning the 2 nearly dead/dying I could return for live ones that were hopefully gonna do better!

(Ups the camera was partly blocked by my case) as you can see I've allready got them planted

Shopping at millaegers I honestly don't know if there's any warranty on there plants *but* I do know when there are issues like I saw goji with bugs they pulled them in the back to treat!

As opposed to steins who uses "sometimes they come in like that" as an EXCUSE if there growers don't know what there growing?

I have *never* had issues with stuff I get at millaegers but I know the stuff from steins isn't as good that's why I signed up for steins silly "garden club" so is have proof when (not if) something went wrong with what I got!

Also Jen had some little bugs flying by her shoulder so I took a couple mint leaves tore them in half and rubbed them on her to help reduce issues in time I hope I can learn to make my own shampoo conditioner and *all* that from scratch (I don't normially wear makeup) and maby even use a couple natural options to keep her pest free as well?

Garden update!

So I am finally getting around to naming everyone so lets start with my moms salsa garden (which is a great example of how a shaded area can affect growth!)

Front row: dill (untagged pepper) ancho/poblano (I *think*) mariachi pepper (untagged) garden salsa pepper cilantro

Back row: big Zac terenzo big Zac

Middle row: tomatillo x2 (one is tiny outher HUGE from same flat too)

The zucchini really are taking off! I should have plenty of relish by the end of the year (will be time too! I'm missing it!)

My herb/windowbox
Back row: catnip lemongrass x 2 pineapple sage stevia

Front row: lemon balm sage boxwood basil lemon verigated thyme creeping thyme

Middle row: patchouli tomatillo Egyptian walking onion oregano tomatillo parsley and garlic (grown as chives)

The coarsican mint is taking to its new home *very* well! Far better then last years (that was from another store)

And here's the goji that's growing with it (I plan on atleast protecting them come winter)

My lettuces I've been told the green will form heads and the red I know are lead varieties

The citronella loving its new home!

My sand-based rooting experiment and while I'm trying to keep the green one on the dry side the rest appear to be doing fine! The black bin has catnip and oregano the grey stevia and rosemary in the green one (thus the dryness!)

The first tomato planter front has mountain fresh back is health kick

Pepper 1
Front is sweet cherry and chocolate beauty back pepperchini and big Bertha

The big tomato planter
Front are purple Cherokee (left) hillbilly (front ish looks middle) middle is brandywine back is old German and mr stripey
These monsters are easily a foot tall!

Pepper 2
Front are unmarked meaning there's a hab and 2 more in there (I mixed them up) back is hot cherry bomb middle is sweet datil an unmarked and fooledja

Tomato planter 3
Front is fantastic back mountain spring

Here's what survived wintersewing it looks like I'll get a bloom from my rosé! YAY! (Note: get/do more of them!) it also looks like my mints are doing well as are the fruit trees but as of yet I don't know what kinds of fruits they may produce

Here albeit a bit flooded is the planter my mom got me for my birthday (needs drainage holes no question!) in front is lettuce leaf basil tricolour sage and Valentino basil going around the back side is Thai basil bay x 2 lemon verabena and cinnamon basil juice in the middle is upwright rosemary and BBQ rosemary (smaller/larger)

And here is the huge mess of mint (note: while this is packed this is also common mint behaviour! They will do everything to crawl out! That's why even I who loves mint would only ever suggest it in a container!)

In *no* order (if you want a specific I can pull it to show) there is: basil mint honeydew mint mojito apple mint mojito mint (because I thought the mint mojito was like apple mint too much) sweet mint x2 grapefruit mint mint julep peppermint chocolate mint

Many of these I may be willing to take cuttings from or send freshly harvested for a good trade if anyone's intrested in any (I grow as naturally as possible and the only pesticide/such I use is sevin even that is so rare haven't used it outside this year yet as not needed) or I may sell if the price is good eighter way sakura0garden@gmail.com send a message with what you're intrested in ok?

Some flowers!

So I figure the first tomatillo fruits are likely starting to grow right now and I have seen flowers on a good few pepper plants as well as buds on a good few more (tomatoes and peppers) even the raspberries are starting to flower! Which I think is a very good sign! No sign yet on the goji but its perked up atleast so I think it's getting settled into its home and I think it will do well once it is settled in there (I allready know in my conditions they like can't be killed)

I'm eager for later in the season when things are producing and I'm saving seeds!

I have heard I should have cages up but I honestly don't think I have the space and I think they should be ok to create a mutual suppourt network thing lol

Everyone's planted!

Well I got everyone planted a day or 2 ago my goji dosent look quite as good as I think it should but I think it's in shock and will bounce back I'm not ferting it too soon (has potting and top soil in it and the coarsican mint too) we will see how it works tho

So ready for pics?

There's my moms there's 3 peppers 3 tomatoes 2 tomatillos dill and cilantro possibly something else --the red is my zucchini pot (I ran out of relish! *need* to make more!)

Here's the mint pot and allready everyone's kinda jumbled up lol I have tags by them but no order to them or that

There's the pot my mom got me for my birthday --in the back is bay in the middle rosemary there's a couple Basil's in there as well as tricolour sage and lemon verabena

Some tomatoes

Peppers

More tomatoes

More peppers (including a flower!)

Another tomato lol

My wintersewing experiment --you can see the fruit trees going nuts you can also see some mint and possibly some weeds as well I'm just kinda letting them do there own thing ATM

Some more stuff that came back I have yet to figure what everyone is (and by now I should have some strong clues)

And my citronella plant

My raspberry (no flowers yet but it's doing really well!)

My rooting test it appears to be going very well! And I can leave some a little more dry while outhers are more on the wet side

Here's the lettuces --the green are a "head" lettuce from what I understand but that area is fairly shady so they may be moving

Here's my windowbox it has catnip (reg and lemon) oregano basil thyme (reg and lemon) lemon balm Egyptian walking onion tomatillos stevia lemon grass and sage --I think that's everyone but I could be missing someone lol

There's my goji with the coarsican mint (I think it will grow into that pot just fine) I did put my last plant from my old goji into there as well as there all goji lol --and if you look carefully you can even see my puppy all tangled up (she dosent like when I water so I thought she would be ok)

I also got some pics of our flowers

A few columbine plants

And some bridal wreath sporea as well

Well I'll def try to keep better updated from here out (still have to name everything in all my pots and that)
